Liverpool midfielder Fabinho is almost there in his recovery from the injury that has sidelined him for the last three weeks. The Brazilian player has been out of action since he sustained a hamstring problem during the Champions League win over Midtjylland FC of Denmark. He was forced off with the issue in the first half of the European game which ended in a 2-0 victory for the Reds.
The hamstring injury also forced Fabinho to miss out on the Brazilian games for this month in the South American (CONMEBOL) section of the qualifiers ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar. Without him, five-time world champions Brazil were able to open up a two-point lead over Argentina at the top of the standings courtesy the wins over Venezuela (home) and Uruguay (away). The Brazilians have an unblemished record after the first four qualifiers. Fabinho would be hoping to return to the Selecao setting when the World Cup qualifiers resume in March 2021.
Liverpool fans were excited when Fabinho was pictured in training as the team prepares for the crucial game with Leicester City at the weekend. The midfielder further confirmed that he’s closing in on a return to action by positing a picture of him in the gym with the caption ‘Almost There’.
Liverpool have a lot of injuries in defence and the return to fitness of Fabinho would be a very good development for manager Jurgen Kloppas the player can easily slot into a more defensive position. He got the hamstring injury mentioned earlier while playing as a centre back alongside Joe Gomez.
Liverpool would be without Joe Gomez for the foreseeable future due to the injury he sustained while he was with the England national team last week. This is in addition to the lengthy absence of Virgil Van Dijk. Dutchman won’t play again until the middle of next year at least due to the knee injury picked up in a collision with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during the Merseyside Derby last month.
